The ‘World’ According to Ramona Flowers; Danny Cal Debuts First Music Video
Ramona Flowers is a beloved, red-hot chick in the cult classic Scott Pilgrim vs The World. The Bristol UK band that named themselves after the character, however, have little to do with her. I’ll take that back. Blending contemporary anthem rock with a slice of the 80s synth, the band truly kick some ass.
The five-member band, who released their debut album Part Time Spies in states on Sept. 9 (they have another release in their homeland), can currently be seen supporting The Heavy, and will no doubt embark on a headlining tour sooner than later. At the Music Conservatory of Westchester in White Plains earlier this month, the band (Steve Bird, Sam James, Wayne Jones and Dave Bettes) stopped by to perform two songs of their record, and sit down for a fun chat. Watch on, listen, and give your computer/portable device a big thumbs up this morning.
Speaking for myself and likely a lot of others, I’m clinging onto the summer. Still. I’ve chosen to ignore the array of pumpkin products, and continue to wear shorts and a t-shirt until it’s 100 percent necessary not to. Singer/songwriter Danny Cal gets it. I’m pleased to premiere the New Yorker’s new music video for “Can’t Let You Go” which features imagery of summer – from barbequing to pool partying. Oh, and there’s a football sequence to get you into fall. In any event, the song’s cool, too. It’s no wonder Cal has opened for such eclectic artists as Mat Kearney, Misterwives, and T-Pain. Listen and watch the anthem below, and thank me later.
A-Sides’ “Delve Into Twelve” Countdown
Each week A-Sides unleashes its top 12 tracks of the week AKA the “Delve Into Twelve” based on the following contributing factors: songs I’m playing out that particular week (no matter when they were released — think overlooked songs, unreleased tracks and old favorites), songs various publicists are trying to get me to listen to that I did and dug a bunch, song posts and trends I’ve noticed on my friends’ Facebook walls and, most importantly: what my pre-schooler is currently enjoying thoroughly with an assist from my (almost) toddler.
About A-Sides with Jon Chattman – thisisasides.com :
Jon Chattman’s music/entertainment series typically features celebrities and artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometime humorous) way. No bells, no whistles — just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, Jon strives for a refreshing change. (Theme song by Blondfire.) Artists featured on the series include Imagine Dragons, Melissa Etheridge, Yoko Ono, Elle King, Joe Perry, Alice Cooper, fun, Bleachers, Charli XCX, Marina and the Diamonds, and Bastille.
